SUBMISSIONS

Please note:   We are on hiatus for an undetermined period of time.  Please hold your submissions!

Our Submission Guidelines at a glance

  • Send your work to submit@thezodiacreview.com.

  • Flash Fiction from 300 to 1,000 words.

  • Prose Poetry of one to two "pages."

  • Attach submissions as .doc or .docx file.

  • We request a very brief bio in body of email cover note, as well as a hint about where you are in the world. (Personal contact data is never shared.)

  • Accepted pieces are nearly always published in the issue following submission.

Our Editorial Process

  • Each submission is initially scanned by the publisher to ensure compliance with our basic guidelines. Any problematical submission is returned to its sender with an explanation.

  • Submissions not personally reviewed by the publisher are forwarded to one of our reviewers/editors for their comprehensive appraisal of their quality and "fit" for The Zodiac Review.

  • The publisher will take into consideration the recommendations of the reviewers/editors, and will make final decisions on all work received. He will email the acceptance/rejection decision to each submitter, along with brief personalized comments about each piece and about the decision.

Our "Literary/Genre" Fiction

The Zodiac Review welcomes unpublished stories from a whole panoply of genres, including psychological, light or dark humor, biting satire, philosophical, astrological, mythos, fictionalized memoir, light sci-fi and light fantasy...if they include decidedly strong elements of literary fiction.

Elements of Literary Fiction

We are especially eager to publish pieces that include some of the following elements of literary fiction:

  • Character-driven as much as or more than plot-driven writing

  • Distinctive or idiosyncratic prose style; creative word usage

  • Literary devices including metaphor, analogy, allegory, imagery, irony

  • Subtle, subliminal or multiple meanings and sub-themes

  • An indeterminate or unresolved ending

Major hints for getting our attention

  • To get a feel for our preferences, please review our discussions above, our about page, and some of the stories in the current and archived issues.

  • Follow our guidelines!
